So now I have convinced you to use Linux its time to start your journey to Amazing World of Linux !!!
Where to start there are about thousands of Linux distro's available out there. I am gonna write a separate article for it.

Linux History :
It all started in 1969 when Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson created Unix Operating System at AT&T Bell Labs. Unix was programmed in high level Assembly Language . But when C programming language was developed in 1972 then Unix was rewritten in C to make it portable and better. The availability of Unix it was highly adapted. Unix was the first OS who's kernel was written in programming language other than Assembly.
In 80's many companies adopted and modified Unix according to them. IBM created AIX ,Sun created SunOS (now Solaris) and many more.
In 1983 Richard Stallman started GNU project for creating a free-Unix like OS. For this he wrote GNU General Public Licence. GNU was like Unix but not Unix. GNU is an reverse acronym whose meaning is GNU's Not Unix. However GNU kernel Hurd didn't do well.
The 90's started with Linus Torvalds, a Swedish speaking Finnish student, buying a 386 computer and writing a brand new POSIX compliant kernel. He put the source code online, thinking it would never support anything but 386 hardware. Many people embraced the combination of this kernel with the GNU tools, and the rest, as they say, is history.

How much Linux :
Today more than 90 percent of supercomputers (including the complete top 10), more than half of all smartphones, many millions of desktop computers, around 70 percent of all web servers, a large chunk of tablet computers, and several appliances (dvd-players, washing machines, dsl modems, routers, ...) run Linux. It is by far the most commonly used operating system in the world.
Why Linux ? :
Linux is open source that is you can download it and modify it according to your means. The most important advantage of using Linux is that , as it is open source there are very less probability for any bug or an vulnerability to stay for very long.
